What our ancestors did with their observations was to make up stories that blended their findings with their notions of the morality of the acts committed by one or more of the individuals under watch. To our ancestors teaching right and wrong and building strength of character were even more vital, certainly not less so, than teaching marksmanship, tracking, trapping, needlework, cooking, or planting.
